Campus Computing Centre (C3):

Campus Computing Centre (C3) is responsible for UNU’s ICT systems and infrastructure.  Our vision is that ICT should permeate everything we seek to do at UNU as an essential and invisible tool that is always available and seamlessly integrated into our activities.

About the Position: We are looking for a high-energy, talented developer with 3 – 5 years of application development experience who is truly passionate about building smart, intuitive and valuable intranet applications to increase productivity for the global UNU user community.  This exciting position would suit someone with quality analytical and creative thinking skills to tackle new problem domains and find new ways to turn innovative ideas into reality with limited resources.  In addition, the ideal candidate should be keen to take on challenges with the desire to explore and extend new skills and technologies, and will have strong ethics and communication skills to work in a multicultural, international environment. 

Major Responsibilities:

Working under the direction of the Chief of ICT and Director of Campus Computing Centre, the Information Systems Engineer will undertake the following tasks in conjunction with other members of C3:

  • Assist in the design, engineering, testing, implementation, and operational support of the intranet applications;
  • Proactively identify opportunities for the development and enhancement of software;
  • Develop software specifications by analyzing user requirements;
  • Create automation procedures to streamline business processes;
  • Conduct architectural reviews and analysis to ensure the effectiveness of technical solutions;
  • Ensure all relevant systems documentation and training materials are maintained;
  • Continually update technical knowledge and skills by attending in-house and/or external courses, reading manuals and accessing new applications;
  • Undertake other duties and specific projects as directed, which may include researching new technology and developing innovative approaches to new challenges.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Essential:

  • High level of competency and knowledge in best practices in software development;
  • Strong knowledge of SQL (MySQL & Microsoft SQL);
  • Strong knowledge of PHP;
  • Knowledge in JavaScript and DHTML;
  • Knowledge of ZEND or other web framework

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with all phases of the SDLC;
  • CFML (Coldfusion);
  • jQuery / YAHOO YUI;
  • Regular expressions;
  • Javascript / AJAX;
  • Cross-browser development;
  • User interface design;
  • CSS;
  • Apache/NGNIX & IIS Administration;
  • MySQL query optimization experience;
  • SOA and Web Services;
  • Experience in developing REST based architectures;
  • Experience in customizing an open source CMS

Remuneration:  This is a full-time position with monthly remuneration ranging from 7,500 MYR to 9,000 MYR depending on the candidate’s academic qualifications and years of work experience.

Appointment duration: One year appointment on Personnel Service Agreement (PSA) with the possibility of renewal, based on satisfactory performance.
